Innova says this about the Firebird: "The Firebird is our most popular upwind distance driver. The Firebird’s combination of superior speed and stability make it possible to throw drives into the wind with confidence. An excellent disc for throwing long range flex shots. A favorite of sidearm and overhead throwers too. This disc is designed for professional level players."

Helpfulness
Perfect Utility Driver

Play a lot in the woods? Get a Firebird (or any Firebird clone) and a Zone! They’re the equivalent of a set of wedges for getting around corners and obstacles. My 12x Champ Firebird has some dome, which helps its fade push more forward rather than being dumpy like my flat 11x Firebird. Still a very overstable forehand disc that I can rely on to battle strong headwinds and fight out of anny. 1010 has such good prices and great service that I will always order through them!
Great, but maybe not the best

For reference, at the time of this review I throw good course shots (not max distance field shots) at 360ft to 400ft consistently with high speed drivers (Bushnell measured). RHBH. Sea level. Baby hyzer release. Very little flutter out of the hand.
So the Firebird. If you are here, you probably already know what it does. Fast fairway driver that resists turning and then fades hard, oftentimes giving a good skip. Everyone should have a disc like this in their bag. Super useful in the wind or for hard turns. A lot of people use them as their go to forehand driver. Firebirds are great, they are ubiquitous, and they are affordable. That said, I don't know that they are still the best at what they do. There are a lot of options out there now. Discraft Raptor, Prodigy FX-2, MVP Motion, Axiom Fireball, Gateway Blade, Dynamic Discs Felon, Latitude 64 Pioneer, Westside Ahti, Kastaplast Stal, Streamline Flare, Infinite Discs Scepter, and there are probably more, but you get the idea.
Here's the thing. For all around performance, I like the Stal better. For extreme overstability and big skips, I like the Flare better. For a ton of plastics that fly differently but predictably in how they will be different, the Felon is better. And by all accounts the Scepter is the exact same Firebird mold but always cooled to have that nice flat top that people like. So yeah, the Firebird is great, but I feel like it has been iterated on more successfully by other companies at this point.
A very useful disc

I found a blue DX Firebird a couple years ago. I found it to be a disc I could throw well. I ordered an orange one in DX plastic as the blue can be hard to see in the tall grass. The orange one is 12 grams lighter. I don’t see a big difference in flight between the two. The DX plastic is fine, nice grip, not slippery, I’ll throw it forehand or backhand. In practice rounds I’ll use it for some longer approach shots where my Aviar isn’t quite enough. I can see why this is such a popular disc.
