About MVP
MVP Disc Sports has rapidly risen through the ranks as a leading provider of all things disc golf since its establishment in 2010 by the Richardson brothers, Brad and Chad. Launched to success by their patented GYRO technology, the Richardson brothers used an overmold process to create a gyroscopic effect. By using a heavier material on the rim of the disc, they could redistribute the weight of the disc from the core to the edge, generating the gyro effect. This effect allows the disc to retain its spin for longer, increasing its ability to push forward at the end of its flight and improving the overall distance.
Operating from its industry-leading manufacturing and distribution facility located in northeast Michigan, MVP not only produces their massive lineup of discs but also many other disc golf accessories, such as baskets, bags, glow accessories, and much more.
MVP has two other disc golf manufacturers under its umbrella. The more experimental branch of the company, Axiom Discs, added colored rims to their lineup. Axiom designs their molds to complement the other MVP molds closely. Streamline Discs is the solo mold (not overmolded) branch of the company where they "streamlined" the manufacturing process, allowing them to sell these discs at slightly lower prices.
Plastics
MVP makes four primary premium blends of plastic: Neutron, Plasma, Proton, and Eclipse 2.0 (glow). Most of the flight numbers are based on the opaque Neutron plastic type. Their Eclipse 2.0 plastic, praised for its brightness and long-lasting glow, is arguably the best glow plastic on the market. Their Fission plastic enhances the GYROscopic effect further by adding micro air bubbles in the core of the disc, allowing even more weight to be distributed to the rim. Typically, the "Cosmic" variation of their plastics as well as their translucent Proton plastic are the most overstable runs of their molds.
MVP offers three levels of stiffness with the baseline Electron plastic. Intuitively, Electron Soft is their softest version, and Electron Firm is their hardest version.
Top Players
In 2022, MVP signed one of the most marketable players in disc golf—Simon Lizotte, known for his "Simon lines" (crazy shots that no one else imagined, much less daring to try). Lizotte grew a large media following with his YouTube channel and social media presence. He has developed a partnership with MVP that included the design of his own line of discs—the Simon Line.
James Conrad, celebrated for executing one of the sport's most memorable shots ever—a 247-foot throw-in with his yellow and blue Envy on the last hole of the 2021 World Championships—earned himself the title of World Champion after a victorious playoff against five-time World Champion Paul McBeth. MVP gave James Conrad his own line of discs following this momentous feat.
